66 The ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTOR Local Roundup It’s an important document to complete, that if neglected will result in disciplinary action, and is very easy to do. There is also a list forming to start another sig/rig class in the future. If you are interested, contact Steve K. to get your name on the list. You can never have too many certifications and that is a very useful one to have. Our annual election wrapped up in December and officers were sworn in at the January meeting with a few changes made to our board of officers. We welcome Kevin K. as warden, Anna G. as a trustee, Matt W. and Kevin C. as E-Board members, Andy G. as treasurer, Bryan E. as vice president, Shannon D. as president, and most notably, Adam Lex as business manager. Adam is taking over the position for Mr. Steve Ketelboeter, who is retiring after 43 years of service in the trade, nine and a half of those years spent as our BA. We greatly appreciate your service, Steve! Adam is part of a large family of elevator constructors, including his father Steve Lex, who himself was the BA of our local before Steve Ketelboeter. Congratulations to both of you, and to all of our officers! We’ve had six retirees in the last few months here in 132 all of which have had long successful careers—Dave fisher, 33 years; Joe Stankhos, 33 years; Mark Halverson, 33 years; Doug Horstmeyer, 35 years; Chuck Retallick, 36 years; and as I mentioned previously, Steve Ketelboeter, 43 years! Congratulations on your retirement. Thank you for your service and cheers to enjoying the rest of your time on Easy Street, gentlemen! I had the privilege of working with and learning from Mr. Doug Horstmeyer and Mr. Chuck Retallick at the beginning of my career and would be remiss if I didn’t mention that our local is losing some damn fine mechanics. We wish all six of you a very happy retirement. Upcoming dates: March 14, 2023: JAC meeting March 15, 2023: Union meeting That’s all for now. Until next month, work safely and be well. Sincerely, Alex Webb Retirees Doug H. and Chuck R. are pictured at their retirement party. Here is a group photo from Chuck’s and Doug’s retirement party. LOCAL 133 • Austin, Texas Hello Brothers and Sisters. Hopefully everyone is settling into the new year. For many that means resolutions for a fresh start. For some it’s to spend more time with family or maybe travel more. For others it can be a plan to get healthier and maybe even wealthier. We work in an amazing trade with great benefits and pay. And when you make a great living it can be easy to get caught up in the rat race and struggle with debt. The adage of “the more you make, the more you spend,” can certainly be evident throughout the country. Many of us, even though we make a great living, are living paycheck to paycheck because we extend ourselves to the limits of our pay. I would like to thank Brother Gus Roesler who every year buys some books on financial health and hands them out to whoever wants them. I am reading one now and it has set me on a path of financial independence that I believe we can all benefit from. For anyone who wants to get on the same path, here a couple books that Brother Gus has given out: Financial Peace and The Total Money Makeover, both by Dave Ramsey. I’m sure you won’t regret reading them. On a different subject I would like to talk about the importance of building relationships with our customers, from building managers on the service, repair and modernization side to the general contractors we associate with on the Brendon Penn took the picture of our first meeting at the new hall but this was his first one before we all got in position.
