IUEC March 2023

64 The ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTOR Local Roundup Sister Stephanie Connolly, Local 130’s first female executive board officer large contributors to Governor Green’s campaign as well as substantial contributors to his successful run for Lieutenant Governor. As of this writing, I have yet to see any bills addressing the State Elevator Inspectors Division. There was talk of bills being put forth prior to the start of the legislative session by NEII and the DLIR but nothing has come up on the radar. This is going to be an interesting session. Let the games begin. Stay tuned! And now for some nostalgia: The photos (year unknown) this month are provided by Bob Steiff, who worked as a mechanic for Hawaiian Pacific Elevator up until he was injured on the job in 1991. I’m hoping the photos are clear enough to make out the individuals because I won’t name them until next month’s journal. Have fun trying to guess who the individuals are. Until next month, stay safe, stay healthy, and WORK SAFELY! A Hui Hou (Until we meet again), Marc LOCAL 126 LOCAL 130 • Calgary, Alberta, Canada Brothers and Sisters, At the time of writing this journal entry we have seven mechanics available for work in our local, all helpers are working and there are plenty of probationary helpers working in the local. The QRB would like to have review sheets for all probationary helpers returned to the hall monthly, as they monitor the progression of these potential members of the IUEC throughout their probationary period. This is a group effort by all of us to ensure we are only swearing in people who are going to be “assets” to the IUEC, and more specifically to Local 130. March is Women’s History Month in Canada and in the United States of America. With that I would like to put a spotlight on one of our sisters who was recently sworn in as an Executive Board member. Sister Stephanie Connolly began her career with the IUEC in 2013, helping with repairing some of the flooded units we had at the time after the historic flooding. She was working as an electrical apprentice when she received the call to come work with Local 130, and she worked with Honorary Retiree Brother Don MacDonald throughout most of her apprenticeship at TKE.
