62 The ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTOR Local Roundup LOCAL 95 • Nashville, Tennessee Greetings from the Volunteer State! Folks, we are officially in the last month of our first quarter of the year. It’s time to get those dues checks in the mail! We’re also either days away from spring or just a few days into the new season by the time this reaches your mailbox. It’s hard to judge when they’ll decide to ship these magazines out. I can tell you while writing this at the end of January, I am already praying for sunnier days and an end to all this rain. Hopefully, in my future, or your present (or even your past, if you tossed this in the magazine pile and forgot to read it till June), we’re all experiencing everything that beautiful weather brings. I wanted to take a few minutes to recognize our brothers who have been fortunate enough to make it to retirement. I have been having more and more interactions with our retirees at multiple union functions. Hearing the stories swapped between a lot of these guys has given me an even greater appreciation for the brotherhood we’re all playing a collective part in. Meeting previous local presidents, treasurers and even business agents all contributes to the inspiring history of where our local is now. At the end of the day, this is all just a unifying of men and women in our community, a coming together to not only ensure safety for the riding public, but adequate pay and representation for all workers under this common banner. Every retiree is someone who has contributed blood, sweat and dues (which causes some folks tears) to ensure we all get to enjoy the fruits of our daily labor. I believe each one of us should set the lofty goal of retiring from this trade. Along the way, take a moment to appreciate the ones who came before, partake in furthering your union, and foster a safe and informative jobsite for the ones who are just beginning their journey. Now that I’ve got the attention of all you retirees, I’d like for you all to know that our local sponsors a breakfast for all our brothers in Knoxville and Nashville. For our Knoxville natives, we meet at Cracker Barrel on Merchants Drive on the second Tuesday of every month at 9 a.m. For our Nashville folks, they meet the first Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. at our union hall. I encourage you to come out and reminisce with your fellow retirees. We host monthly meetings as well on the third Tuesday of every month. Knoxville meets at their Powell location at 6:30 p.m. for a satellite meeting and Nashville meets at our union hall at 5:30 p.m. Please, come out and join us even if you’re a retiree. We would love to host any former and current members. Also, I know I tell you this every article, even though I think most of you ignore it, I have set up an email for pictures you would like to see in the journal! Please send all photos and a short description to 93localpics@gmail.com. Thank you to everyone who reads this and please, work safely! Your union brother, William Jennings Our Local 93 and Local 64 retirees are pictured at the January retiree breakfast. Helmets to Hardhats applicant, Army Veteran, and First-Year Apprentice Michael Pitman tackles the escalators so the rest of us don’t have to. A good day on the job begins with safety and ends safely. Brother Thierry Bidon receives his Gold Card plaque from Local President Jeff Jones and Business Agent Jason Gregory.
