56 The ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTOR Local Roundup Brother Joey Hancock shot a nice buck this year. LOCAL 82 • Vancouver, Canada Happy March to all of our brothers and sisters across British Columbia and the Yukon. It’s a great privilege to be writing to you all, bringing the current news and what’s coming around the corner for all of our members. Lots of firsts to report on, as by now you all have heard that our new hall is open for business. This past January, we had our first general membership meeting and the first member sworn into the Local in our new home. January’s inaugural membership meeting had a great turnout. Awesome to see the membership pack the new hall. Also in the meeting the first member taking the oath in front of all of us in the new home was Brother Cole Corbett. Congratulations to you. By the time you all receive this month’s issue, Local 82 will have held the elections for the various positions. Would like to take the time to congratulate all of the members who decided to volunteer their time to hold the positions that came up. It takes all of us, working together, to move this union further. Now that the elected positions are filled, our next big job is our contract negotiations coming up early this fall. It is important to know that all of your input moving forward will help our hall better negotiate a contract that you all want. Please email the business representatives for any and all suggestions you would like to see brought up in the upcoming talks. Brother Lee Davidson swearing in Brother Cole Corbett LOCAL 81 • San Antonio, Texas Howdy 81, Good news! The local is planning a spring picnic. The Local 81 picnic will be on Sunday, April 23 at MacArthur Park, located at 1611 NE Loop 410; SA, TX 78216 at pavilion number 4. Save the date and make plans to attend. We will have more details next month. Be sure to let Greg know how many in your family will be attending. The last time I spoke to Greg there were four mechanics on the bench. It looks like there is a lot of work on the books but getting material seems to be a problem. I received this from Brother Steve: “Brother Severo Valdez from the lower Rio Grande Valley. I wanted to let you guys know my wife and I welcomed twins to the clan. Babies Juliette Alaina and Lorenzo Valdez were born on November 1, 2022. They are a blessing and we are restarting our parental journey. Happy holidays and best wishes in the new year.” ~ Severo and Jessica Valdez Work Safely, Jeff Feel free to send in your pics or ideas for articles to Local81journal@gmail.com.
