Local Roundup LOCAL 39 LOCAL 38 • Salt Lake City, Utah Local 38 continues to grow our membership by swearing in four new brothers in January of 2023, as well as recognizing the 25-year milestone of ten of our brothers. Our local has continued to grow and will likely continue as we begin to look into expanding to a new union hall in the coming years. Utah is predicted to continue growing in population, and population growth means more work for our union. Keep striving, Brothers and Sisters! At the time of this writing the winter has been relatively mild and the bench remains clear. Congratulations to Ben Piquette who recently got sworn in. Our apprentice application period is over. We look forward to welcoming new members eager to learn this great trade. It’s good to see Local 39 looking to the future. I wish the companies would do the same. Many highly knowledgeable members are either retiring or close to retiring and some of the larger companies don’t recognize the talent leaving and the need to grow the trade. It is important to teach the new members coming in to take pride in their work, do a quality job, promote the trade and work safely. Congratulations to Russ Richmond on retiring in January. Russ ended with 30 years of service between Otis, Delta, and KONE. In addition, Russ spent 20 years as an officer of Local 39. Best of luck on your future endeavors and enjoy your retirement. Congratulations also go out to Zack and Vanessa Hall. The Halls welcomed a new baby boy, Austin Hall, in January. In solidarity, Larry Smith
