For me, the cost ends up being about an hour a week that I “work for free” so to speak, but that’s not really an accurate statement. For that one hour a week that I’m giving up to pay my card I get a strong wage, even better healthcare, and a nationwide union support system. An hour a week seems a small price to pay for all those perks. Work safely, work smartly, stay hydrated, and above all, strive to be happy. LOCAL 34 • Indianapolis, Indiana Brothers and Sisters, In January we started the new year by swearing in a new BA, trustees, and Executive Board members. Additionally, we welcome Brother Isaiah Waters, who was sworn in as an apprentice in December. A presidential election will be held during the February meeting. The candidates are Zachary Bontrager, Vincent Copass and Brian Palmer. Our March meeting will feature a chili cook off. Bring your best pot of chili. Sign up is not required. If you wish, arrangements can be made through Carl Youngstaffel to drop chili off earlier in the day. A winner will be announced. We currently have three mechanics on the bench. Local 34 mourns the recent loss of Brother Jim Alexander. Jim was an IUEC member for 33 years, from November 1, 1962 to June 30, 1996 when he retired from Otis Elevator.
