Local Roundup March 2023 41 planning on retiring. Make the correct selections that benefit you and your family prior to retiring. As a reminder, our local has a death assessment and benefit for all active members and honorary retirees. Contact us at the hall to let us know how you can update your beneficiary information. Brothers and Sisters, remember your oath of obligation, “To do all in my power to promote the interests of the trade.” Fraternally, Mike Gleiforst Jeff Combes Lee and Austin Gaskill LOCAL 27 • Rochester, New York Greetings from Rochester, NY. February 1, 2023. Weather is the correct temperature for here, about 15 degrees. No snow is always a plus. Football will be over by the time this is read. College basketball will be closing in on March Madness. School has started and we have three classes this semester with six students in each. I can’t remember when this local had 18 helpers/apprentices ever. Work remains steady for a local of our size. Looks like this work can/should possibly be sustainable for most of the year, barring a disaster appearing. At a Special Meeting held on January 31, 2023, Local 27 swore in the officers from the latest election. They are Jim Gould continuing to serve as recording secretary, Jose Casaverde as treasurer, Ian Wild as trustee, and Ron Cancelmi as the new business manager of Local 27. Yesterday was my last day as a working mechanic/business manager in Local 27. I started on Friday, January 9, 1987 and retired on January 31, 2023. I have met an awful lot of people who I will remember for a long time, people from all over the U.S. and Canada. The members here in Local 27 have been great to work with and work for. After working some of the jobs that I had before starting this, I can honestly say that this business is the best to be in. The pension, annuity, and healthcare, and the support and friendships are THE BEST. Five days into my retirement, this coming Sunday, I will be taking the Polar Plunge here in Lake Ontario with an expected air temperature of 15-20ish degrees and a water temperature of around 34 degrees. I can now get going on the three to four years of yard work. Keep the faith and follow the safety procedures and safety policies of your employer. There are thousands upon thousands of man hours in those safety procedures, which makes for better-funded programs like our annuity, pension, and healthcare. This requires an effort by all to do their part. Goodbye and thank you for the many memories. Alan R. Rothfuss, Jr. International #97615 Regional Director Steve Bruno swearing in the recently elected/ re-elected Local 27 officers, from left, Treasurer Jose Casaverde, Trustee Ian Wild, Recording Secretary Jim Gould, and Business Manager Ron Cancelmi Regional Director Steve Bruno giving Retiring Business Manager Al Rothfuss his 35-year pin
