40 The ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTOR Local Roundup For the 12th year running, Fall Protection – General Requirements has been the most frequently cited standard with more than double the citations of the second most cited standard. Despite this consistency, or maybe because of it, safety practices around working at elevated heights have continued to evolve. The 10 most-cited standards in 2022 remained the same as in 2021, although the order shifted somewhat. Hazard Communication jumped from 5th to 2nd, with a 25% increase in violations. The biggest drop occurred in Scaffolding, with a 19% decrease in violations, with OSHAs fiscal year running from October 1 through September 30. It is of Honorary Retiree Lee Gaskill and his grandson Austin who was initiated in November. It’s great to see generations of Elevator Constructors. Good to see you, Brother Lee, and congratulations on Austin’s initiation. One of the topics we re-enforce to every new hire is something we should remind ourselves of every day. That is to develop and practice your own safe work habits as well as comply with your employer’s safety programs. So, every day, review through a JHA or mentally note all of your tasks for the day and the safe way to complete your job. Each day develop and practice your safe working habits. We have been asked by the benefits plan to ask everyone to update their beneficiary information. Please do this with the hall also. No one expects their time on this planet to end abruptly and without any notice, but it happens. Make sure your pension and life insurance goes to who you need it to go to. Many times, a member or an honorary retiree passes and no one is listed as the beneficiary or the beneficiary has also passed. Make sure your information is up to date. This goes double for those Gerald Hazlett Mike Halpin
