IUEC March 2023

Local Roundup Brothers Paul, Drew and Ben with Richard volunteered their time for the Lift a Vet program. March 2023 25 man can have is pride and humility. These may seem contradictory but having the pride to always do the best you can do and the humility to know when to ask for help are crucial. I omitted one of the best assets—the desire to want to learn. If you are like me some things are beyond your comprehension but your reach should always exceed your grasp. That being said, if you are an elevator man that lets the boss dictate how you install, repair, or service an elevator… STOP! There are elevator men who have gone to prison for their indiscretions. If someone got hurt because you cut corners, could you look at yourself in the mirror? Not to mention, you could be held civilly liable. Mistakes are made by everyone; my wife made a doozy 33 years ago. The elevator men who are admired most are the ones who always tried to do their best and stood up for other members. UNION STRONG, curtpel@htc.net Matt Fernandez presenting Larry Lamar with his 50-year pin LOCAL 6 • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania We would like to welcome an addition to our team! Member Justin Briggs has started a new signatory company with John Perry called Integrity Elevator. Our regional organizer signed Integrity in November 2022. We are excited for another independent company to join Local 6! Also in Local 6 news, we participated in the Lift for a Vet program in December 2022. Brother Paul Ryan, Brother and Navy Veteran Drew Swarmer, and Brother Ben Warrene were the mechanics on site installing the lifts. The recipient was Richard McNulty. He served in the Army from 1953 to 1957. On a weekend, the group took a day to install two chairlifts for Richard to access his second floor. Installs like this dramatically increase the quality of living for elderly women and men. It allows them to live without fear of falling down stairs, or being restricted to the first floor and unable to access all of the facilities in their home. One or two chairs and four to eight hours of work changes people’s lives for the better. The January meeting this year saw the swearing in of all officers. These men are your brothers, working to carry out the local’s business with YOUR best interest in mind. We do not have corporate shareholders for whom we need to enrich and maximize profits. We are working for our members and our families as the stakeholders. If you have any reason to reach out, please call the hall or any officer of the local so we can reach a resolution. Local 6 sends it condolences to the family of Bill Hughes, Brother Cody Conroy, Brother Brian Kehern, and retired Brother Bob Beckert. We are remembering Bill Hughes for the passing of his grandfather Alex Daniels, Brother Cody Conroy for the passing of his mother Carly Lavelle, Brother Brian Kehern with the passing of his sister Nikki, and Retired Brother Bob Beckert for the passing of his sister Bonnie Szramowski and Uncle Bill Beckert. Sincerely, Sean Hanlon Dave Gielarowski, his son Matthew and daughter Danielle are pictured with their bucks. What a season!
